CHARACTERS OF ROMEO AND JULIET
Romeo - Son of Lord and Lady Montague, fell in love with Juliet. Romeo is handsome, intelligent, and very sensitive. His dislike interest is violence. His interest is love. Main character. He secretly marries Juliet. Friend of Benvolio, Mercutio, and Friar Lawrence.
Juliet - Daughter of Lord and Lady Capulet, fell in love with Romeo. Juliet is native and beautiful. She has thought little about love and marriage. Secretly married to Romeo. Main female character.

Lord Montague – Romeo’s father, His enemy is lord Capulet
Lady Montague – Romeo’s mother, she died of broken heart.
Benvolio– Montague’s nephew, Romeo’s cousin and thoughtful friend, he makes a genuine effort to defuse violent scenes in public places, though Mercutio accuses him of having a nasty temper in private. He spends most of the play trying to help Romeo get his mind off Rosaline, even after Romeo has fallen in love with Juliet.
Mercutio – A kinsman to the Prince, and Romeo’s close friend. One of the most extraordinary characters in all of Shakespeare’s plays, Mercutio overflows with imagination, wit, and, at times, a strange, biting satire and brooding fervor.
Friar Lawrence – A Franciscan friar, friend to both Romeo and Juliet. Kind, civic-minded, a proponent of moderation, and always ready with a plan. An Expert in the use of seemingly mystical potions and herbs.

Setting:This story takes place in Verona, Italy around the 1300’s. Mostly centered around Romeo and Juliet.
Theme:Forbidden love, jealousy, fighting, backstabbing, secrets and lies.
Plot:The Montague’s and Capulet’s always hated each other. One night Romeo and his kinsman decided to crash the Capulet’s party where Romeo met Juliet it was love at first sight. Romeo kissed Juliet and it wasn’t until after that they both found out that their families did not get along. Romeo stayed outside of Juliet’s balcony that night as she was talking about Romeo and he found out she was also in love with him. They both confessed their love as they decided that the next day Romeo would go to Friar Lawrence so they could be married. Long after Romeo left the next day Juliet sent her nurse into town to figure out their plans. That night they got married behind their parents back, no one knew but Romeo, Juliet, and the nurse. However what they didn’t know was Paris (the prince’s kinsman) was asking Juliet’s Dad for Juliet’s hand in marriage and Lord Capulet agreed. Meanwhile in town, Tybalt (Juliet’s kinsman) and Mercutio (Romeo’s kinsman) got into a fight where Tybalt had killed Mercutio leaving Romeo in a rage he kissed Tybalt, the prince came along and banned Romeo from the town where he was to never return. Juliet had found out and she was miserable, not long after did she find out that in two days she was suppose to marry Paris. Juliet quickly went to Friar Lawrence for an answer; she would drink a potion that would make her appear dead for 24 hours so than everyone would think she died, and the marriage would be off, Romeo would be sent a letter about the plans than when Juliet was about to wake up; her would find Romeo waiting by her side where they could leave and y a whole new life together. The nurse did not about this plan, only the Friar, Juliet, and soon Romeo as well. Juliet drank the potion that night and the next day, the day she was suppose to marry Paris, her mother fund her “dead” lying in her bed. The wedding was cancelled as planned and Juliet was on her way to her families vault where her dead relatives lay. The messenger however never got to give Romeo the letter so when Romeo’s servant found out about Juliet’s death, he immediately told him and Romeo didn’t know she wasn’t actually dead, so he left to go to the vault with a bottle of poison where he would kill himself because he didn’t want to live without Juliet so he killed himself once he reached the tomb, shortly after Juliet woke up and found him dead so she stabbed herself. In the end, the feud between the Montague’s and the Capulet’s was over. It took the death of their own children and cousins to end it for once and all.
